Media Notes

In St. Louis, Dan Caesar noted Tim McCarver is “set to return” for about 30 FS Midwest Cardinals games in '15. FSM GM Jack Donovan said that in addition to McCarver returning, the net’s “entire Cardinals broadcast lineup will be the same.” Dan McLaughlin “remains the primary play-by-play announcer, again for about 120 games, with Al Hrabosky and Rick Horton serving as commentators.” Horton also will “continue to do some play-by-play.” Pat Parris, Jim Hayes and Jim Edmonds “will be involved in pregame and postgame shows.” Caesar noted McCarver was “candid on the air, not afraid to make negative critiques about the Cardinals” and “meshed nicely with McLaughlin, who elevated his performance” (STLTODAY.com, 1/9).

CAREER MOVE: On Long Island, Neil Best wrote Bonnie Bernstein’s decision to get involved two years ago with Internet startup Campus Insiders as VP/Content & Brand Development and reporter “was as risky as it sounds, but so far has no regrets.” She said, “I’m proud I had the guts to take this job and do something no one else is doing. If we can pull it off, it will be the greatest accomplishment of my life.” Bernstein: “Is it difficult that Campus Insiders doesn't quite get the visibility of the networks? I wouldn't characterize it as difficult. I realize what it feels like to be on the top of the mountain. I'm in a position now to build a business to get there.” She added, “We're not a habit yet. That's what we want to become. … I feel like I'm helping build something that could be really, really special” (NEWSDAY.com, 1/9).

IN ANY LANGUAGE...: DEADLINE.com reported actor William Levy is “partnering with NASCAR Productions and its Entertainment Marketing division to produce a nonscripted docuseries about Hispanic race car drivers.” The series will “focus on the challenges the drivers face as they try to make it in NASCAR.” Levy and Gladys Gonzalez will “produce this project” and CAA will “package” it. Levy’s Spanish-language series Triunfo Del Amor (Love’s Triumph) was “the most watched scripted series” on American TV (DEADLINE.com, 1/9).

GETTING IN TUNE: CSN Mid-Atlantic has collaborated with The Morrison Brothers Band “for a country rock song and music video that will serve as the opening theme for the network’s coverage of Capitals games on Saturdays for the remainder of the season.” The song is called “Ice on Fire” (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 1/9).
