Jerry Jones Not Concerned About AT&T Stadium's Lack Of Upcoming Major Events

AT&T Stadium is set to host the inaugural CFP National Championship tonight, and Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones believes the venue "will always be a destination for signature events," according to Schuyler Dixon of the AP. Jones "has no concern" the Oregon-Ohio State matchup "means the calendar will be clear of the country's biggest sporting events for the first time" since the venue's opening in '09. Jones: "It's just a daily given that our organization will go out and pursue major sporting events. Bottom line is this, that's what that stadium does." Dixon notes the Super Bowl and Final Four "aren't scheduled to come back after one visit apiece in the venue's first five-plus years." Jones now "has to wait to see when any of the 'big three' will be back, which is the biggest test for a vision that goes back a decade." Super Bowl XLV was "plagued by an unusual ice storm that lasted most of the week before the game, and then a problem with the installation of temporary seats displaced several hundred fans on game day." The '14 Final Four was "much smoother, but wasn't without weather problems." Arlington Mayor Bob Cluck "doesn't think his city's stadium will be picked for another Super Bowl until all legal issues are resolved, but he thinks it will be picked again" (AP, 1/12).
