Facility Notes

In Edmonton, Dave Lazzarino reports the Oilers' new downtown arena "is on track to open" in fall '16. City of Edmonton Dir of Corporate Communications Ronna Bremer: "We haven't had any delays because the weather's been pretty co-operative. We're on a pretty tight schedule so we can't afford to have Mother Nature play too many tricks on us." A full arena update "is expected to be brought before city council in February." But Bremer said that all elements, "including requests for public art proposals, are going smoothly so far" (EDMONTON SUN, 1/7).

JACOBS' LADDER: Members of the Jacobs family, which owns Delaware North and the Bruins, said that if a new Bills stadium is "going to be built, it should be built in downtown Buffalo, near the thriving Canalside district, and they are open to taking an ownership stake in it." In Buffalo, Stephen Watson notes the comments "are the first confirmation of the family’s possible interest in owning or operating a new Bills stadium." Delaware North co-CEO Lou Jacobs: "We haven’t had any discussions on that particular topic. But we welcome any opportunity to participate in any sort of venture" (BUFFALO NEWS, 1/7).

EATING LIKE A HORSE: In Louisville, Gregory Hall reports Keeneland Race Course "is switching caterers for the first time in more than 75 years," as the family-owned Turf Catering "is being acquired" by the track. Turf "has been the exclusive caterer for Keeneland" since '36 under the leadership of the Wolken family since '29 (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 1/7).
