League Notes

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly confirmed that NHL officials this week met with reps for Fidelity National Financial Chair William Foley "to discuss the season-ticket drive" for a prospective expansion team in Las Vegas. Daly in an e-mail wrote, "Good discussion fleshing out what they have planned. Still a work in progress." YAHOO SPORTS' Nicholas Cotsonika noted Foley's group, Hockey Vision Las Vegas, "has put up a website: lasvegas-hockey.com." The drive "is scheduled to start in February" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 12/18).

PRINCE'S THRONE? The CP's Dan Ralph cited sources as saying that former CFL Montreal Alouettes President & CEO Skip Prince "has contacted the search committee" tasked with finding the next CFL commissioner and "expressed an interest" in the job. Also, MLSE COO Tom Anselmi reportedly "has been approached about the position" (CP, 12/18).

SUIT YOURSELF: FS1's Kenny Florian said that the recent lawsuit filed against the UFC is about "disgruntled employees who want to get paid more." The net's Michael Bisping added, "You've got three disgruntled ex-fighters and their careers didn't pan out the way they wanted it to be. So guess what? They're suing the UFC." Meanwhile, FS1's Ariel Helwani said, "The sport isn't going down. Everyone's going to live to fight another day. Everyone needs to calm down" ("UFC Tonight," FS1, 12/17).

TEN YEARS GONE: USA TODAY's Jarrett Bell wrote the case of Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's indefinite suspension "underscores the huge mistake the NFLPA," headed by Exec Dir DeMaurice Smith, "committed in agreeing" to a 10-year CBA. The labor pact allowed NFL Commissioner Goodell "to maintain his broad power in disciplining players." The union's inability to address Goodell's power during the lockout in '11 "keeps coming back to haunt the players." It seems the union "would be in a much better position to affect a fundamental change if it were not attached to a 10-year deal" (USA TODAY, 12/17).
