QuikTrip Gives Top Billing To Nonprofit Group With NASCAR Race Deal In Atlanta

Convenience store and gasoline retailer QuikTrip and Oklahoma-based nonprofit Folds of Honor have signed on as title sponsors of the March 1 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships and assistance to families of military men and women who have been killed or disabled in combat. The event will be called the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 (AMS). In Tulsa, John Hoover notes the title-sponsorship deal is a "three-year agreement." QuikTrip manager of Public & Government Affairs Mike Thornbrugh said, "We really think the exposure that Folds of Honor is gonna get from this is gonna tug at a lot of peoples’ heart, and they’ll want to get involved and help out this great organization. That’s our sole motivation” (TULSA WORLD, 12/17). Also in Tulsa, Eric Bailey notes QuikTrip is "giving the non-profit organization top billing while undertaking expenses along with Coca-Cola." QuikTrip VP/Sales & Marketing Chuck Barton said, "The biggest focus that we've talked about is 90 percent Fold and 10 percent QuikTrip." Barton: "We really just want to get them national exposure. It's something that we've been committed to over the past five years when we started with Folds." Bailey notes discussions of sponsoring the race "began three to six months ago during the conversations with Coke." The three-year deal with AMS was "cemented about three weeks ago" (TULSA WORLD, 12/17).
