FIFA World Cup, Super Bowl XLVIII Among Most-Discussed Facebook Topics In '14

The FIFA World Cup was Facebook’s most-discussed global topic of ’14, ahead of the Ebola outbreak and Brazilian elections, according to rankings from the social media platform. The Seahawks-Broncos matchup in Super Bowl XLVIII ranked No. 8 overall, while the Sochi Games ranked No. 10. In the U.S. alone, the Super Bowl was the most-discussed sports topic on Facebook, ranking No. 4 among all topics. The World Cup ranked No. 6 in the U.S. Yankee Stadium ranked No. 7 among the most checked-into places in the U.S. for Facebook, while Madison Square Garden ranked No. 10. Cavaliers F LeBron James was the most-discussed athlete among U.S. Facebook users, followed by former MLBer Derek Jeter and boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. (Facebook).
