NFL Franchise Notes: Columnists Call Out Redskins Owner Dan Snyder

In N.Y., William Rhoden writes "history suggests" the Redskins will "endure endless seasons of losing" under Owner Dan Snyder. The "only fascinating element" of yesterday's Redskins-Giants game was the "continuing evidence of how Snyder has taken a once proud franchise and ruined it as a competitive entity." Snyder "stands alone as the worst owner in sports." He is "simultaneously a symbol and a product of the erosion of an industry whose highest value is profit and the preservation of itself" (N.Y. TIMES, 12/15). In DC, Jason Reid writes the "bad news" for the Redskins is that President & GM Bruce Allen "remains on the job." In Allen's "first offseason with roster control," he has "made so many missteps that there's no telling how long it could take to untangle his dunderhead moves" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/15).

SCHOOL OF FISH? In Miami, Armando Salguero wrote former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum is "yet another member of the shadow government" that Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross "has surrounded himself with." These folks "aren't employed by the team in an orthodox fashion yet give the owner advice about the team although they are rarely actually around the team." Tannenbaum also works as an agent, and "among the clients" he reps are Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson. Salguero: "What are the chances one or all of these guys interview for the next Dolphins job?" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 12/14).

JUST WIN, BABY: ESPN.com's Adam Schefter cited sources as saying that Raiders Owner Mark Davis is "getting ready to make bold moves and spend big money to help restore" the team to "the winning ways it once knew." Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie "could be a casualty of the overhaul" (ESPN.com, 12/14).
