Media Notes

In Tampa, Tom Jones reports Lightning broadcaster Bobby Taylor, "who has been calling Lightning games on television since the team's second season, 1993-94, is stepping into a new role." Taylor yesterday said that this season will be "his last as a color commentator." Next season he will "appear on Lightning broadcasts during the pre- and postgame shows, and intermissions." Taylor is "going back to what he loves: teaching the sport." He said, "I'm really not getting a whole lot of teaching done (during the broadcast). I love to show the little idiosyncrasies of the game. We don't really do that anymore" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 12/11).

SWITCHING FIELDS: In K.C., Sam McDowell reports Sporting KC "will have new TV voices next season." Callum Williams yesterday said that he "will not be back as the club's play-by-play announcer" after serving in that role for the past four seasons. He added that his departure "was the club's decision." McDowell reports SKC also will "replace color commentator Diego Gutierrez, who will not return after one season" (K.C. STAR, 12/11).

HUSKER DO: NeuLion's gameday app for the Univ. of Nebraska football team was used during home games at Memorial Stadium by more than 150,000 fan devices in the first year of its availability. The app offered game info, exclusive videos, real-time stats and venue maps with concession stands and restrooms (NeuLion).
