Triple-A RedHawks Officially Change Moniker To Oklahoma City Dodgers

The new nickname for the Dodgers' Triple-A PCL Oklahoma City affiliate yesterday was announced at a press conference at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark as team officials "unveiled the franchise’s new primary logo in addition to new home and road uniforms," according to Michael Baldwin of the OKLAHOMAN. The Oklahoma City Dodgers’ primary logo "features a home plate design that features old-time, classic crossed bats in front of a brick façade that pays homage" to the team's venue. Oklahoma City is "written in bold letters above the Dodgers’ classic script." Items such as the "famous Dodgers’ script of the 'shooting ball' that debuted" in '38 also were unveiled. This is "only the third name" for the franchise, with the 89ers having a 36-year run followed by 17 years of RedHawks, which will be "honored in a patch on the left sleeve on home uniforms." Home hats are "modeled after the old Brooklyn Dodgers hats." Road uniforms are "throwbacks to Dodgers uniforms from the ’70s and ’80s, the subtle difference being white trim around the lettering." One alternate jersey is "modeled after" the '48 Dodgers uniforms. Team President & GM Michael Byrnes said that it is "not feasible for the OKC Dodgers to play the major league team in an exhibition game in 2015 due to prior commitments, but it is on future agendas." He "didn’t want to speak" for the Dodgers’ Double-A Texas League affiliate in Tulsa, "but it appears they’ll stick with the nickname Drillers" (OKLAHOMAN, 12/4).
