UAB AD BRIAN MACKIN will "step down from his post after 12 years to take a newly-created administrative position designed to aid student athletes affected by the discontinuation of programs." The school yesterday officially terminated its football, bowling and rifle teams. Mackin will serve as an assistant to President RAY WATTS for athletics. He will be replaced as AD by Senior Associate AD SHANNON EALY "on an interim basis" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/2).

ON THE RIVER WALK: Spurs Sports & Entertainment named industry vet MIKE MALO VP/Marketing & Branding. In the newly created position, Malo will oversee marketing and branding for the Spurs, WNBA Stars, D-League Austin Spurs and AHL San Antonio Rampage. He reports to SS&E Exec VP LAWRENCE PAYNE and will start on Dec. 15. Prior to joining the Spurs, Malo spent the past five years as Crew Senior VP & CMO. He has also worked as Marketing Dir for both the Eagles and D-Backs (John Lombardo, Staff Writer).

EXECS: Callaway Golf Senior Exec VP & CFO BRADLEY HOLIDAY will retire next year, and the company plans to conduct a search for his replacement in early '15. Holiday will continue in his role as CFO until his successor has been identified (Callaway)....The Indians named TIM SALCER Senior Dir of Ticket Sales & Service, replacing NICK ARNDT, who left the position in January '14. Salcer most recently spent 14 years with Chattanooga-based consumer packaged goods company Chattem (CRAINSCLEVELAND.com, 12/1)....The MLB Cardinals promoted Dir of Baseball Development CHRIS CORREA to Dir of Scouting (Cardinals)....The NHL Kings named JEFF LEWIS Video Editor & Animator and JOHN ABARY Account Exec for Hockey Development (THE DAILY)....Memphis Int'l Raceway named BOBBY SIDES Dir of Race Operations for Dirt Track & Road Course, effective Jan. 2 (MIR)....Bakersfield College appointed interim AD SANDI TAYLOR to the position on a full-time basis (BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN, 12/2)....Clayton State Univ. named Limestone College SID JOSHUA DARLING to the same position (CSU).
