Georgetown Debuting New Promo Aimed At Attracting More Fans Over Holidays

The Georgetown men's basketball team is "debuting a new promotion this season" in an attempt to draw more fans to two home games at Verizon Center "over the holidays," according to Dan Steinberg of the WASHINGTON POST. The "Student-for-a-Day" promo is available for two games -- Dec. 20 against UNC Charlotte and Jan. 3 against Creighton. The school has "set aside 150 of its typical 800-seat student allotment to sell through a Living Social package." Fans who buy those seats "will get the ‘We Are Georgetown’ T-shirts that students wear." They also will get a "cheer sheet from the student fan club with information on the opponents, and suggested chants." Additionally, they will receive the "lanyard and campus map a freshman student might use, and they’ll get a ‘Student of Georgetown Basketball’ degree from the school’s Jack the Bulldog mascot." Georgetown Dir of Marketing Chris Grosse: “A lot of schools just release those seats and sell them to the general public, and then you’ll get people who will sit on their hands. So I thought why don’t we create a package for people and kind of entice them to get loud and make some noise and relive that whole college time, when they could act like that?” Steinberg noted the packages "are available to anyone who wants them, not just alumni." Georgetown has "sold about half of the 300 packages they started with, but might still expand the offer if there’s sufficient demand" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 12/2).
