To The Five Boroughs: Adidas' NBA All-Star Uniforms Pay Homage To Host City

adidas this morning unveiled the uniforms and apparel for the ‘15 NBA All-Star Game in N.Y., and the jerseys are "starkly plain compared to previous years, a tribute to the style of apparel conjured up from the host city's basketball past," according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. The “most noticeable absence on the jersey is the lack of conference identifier.” The league has “had ‘East’ and ‘West’ on its All-Star Game jerseys” since the ‘60s. Another change is “found on the back of the uniform where the players' first and last names will be sewn above and below the number, respectively.” The warmup jackets feature "military themed patches denoting years played in the All-Star Game and other notable awards and titles.” A shooting shirt “features the block lettering similar to the font used on shirts” in the ‘50s and ‘60s (ESPN.com, 12/2). USA TODAY’s Jeff Zillgitt notes uniform elements “include a subtle but meaningful nod to the city’s five boroughs.” Down the side of the shorts and jersey, five stars “pay homage to the five boroughs with artwork on each star that is specific to Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens” (USATODAY.com, 12/2).
