Former AFL Chicago Rush Owner DAVID STARAL JR. yesterday "was arrested on federal bankruptcy and wire fraud charges." Federal authorities alleged that the 35-year-old "fraudulently purchased the Rush franchise when he told then-AFL Commissioner JERRY KURZ that his net worth" was $5M "despite having filed for bankruptcy just a month before, when he had claimed negative net worth" (CHICAGOBUSINESS.com, 11/24). 

L.A. STORY: Lawyers for former Clippers co-Owner SHELLY STERLING, the Sterling family trust and L.A. Sports Properties "filed court papers Thursday seeking attorneys’ fees and costs to compensate their clients in getting a complaint tossed from DONALD STERLING's former mistress, V. STIVIANO. Shelly Sterling is asking for $45,585, while the trust and L.A. Sports Properties "want about $25,000." A hearing on the motion for attorneys’ fees is scheduled for Dec. 16, with the trial slated to begin March 9 (DAILYNEWS.com, 11/24).

MADAM SECRETARY: In California, Larry Bohannan writes SUZY WHALEY's election as PGA of America Secretary comes at a time when the organization "could use a few feel-good stories." But if fans think Whaley’s election "was some kind of gimmick," they "really don’t know anything about Whaley or her career in golf." The Whaley election is "less about PGA officials covering up a less-than-stellar fall than it is about inclusion in the game." Whaley has "certainly done her part to push that agenda in her own way." She is a "working and active golf professional" (Palm Springs DESERT SUN, 11/25).
