Marketplace Roundup

ESPN.com's Darren Rovell noted Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. was "originally booked as an add-on" to an autograph signing for WR Victor Cruz at a Long Island mall yesterday, but he "became the main event." Steiner Sports "didn't change its prices ($39 for Beckham and $69 for Cruz), but did capitalize on the demand of the moment by printing out and selling pictures" of Beckham's catch Sunday night against the Cowboys. The company also "charged $10 for an inscription such as 'Greatest Catch Ever' or 'Bend It Like Beckham" (ESPN.com, 11/24).

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA: In Portland, Allan Brettman reported Columbia Sportswear yesterday "opened its first branded store" in N.Y., "just in time for the holiday shopping season." The store will "offer a range of Columbia's outerwear, apparel and footwear." Columbia products "already were distributed through the company's retailer network" in N.Y. and throughout the Northeast. The store opening is the latest in the Portland-based company's "retailing strategy," and it "plans to open two other 'Columbia classic stores' in Chicago (OREGONLIVE.com, 11/24).

SWEATER WEATHER: In Houston, Maribel Molina notes 24 “ugly sweaters featuring NBA teams are currently up for sale, but are going fast.” Teams like the Spurs already “have sold out,” and “if snowflakes, Christmas trees and argyle patterns side by side with the Rockets logo is your thing, this makes the perfect officially licensed gift” (CHRON.com, 11/24).
