Epix, NHL Set To Offer Free Digital Access For "Road To The Winter Classic" Series

Epix and the NHL next month will make their "Road to the Winter Classic" series "available on a number of websites and digital platforms," according to Mike Reynolds of MULTICHANNEL NEWS. The four-part series, chronicling the Blackhawks and Capitals ahead of the Jan. 1 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Nationals Park, "will make its linear bow on Dec. 16 and will also be available to non-authenticated subscribers on Epix.com, NHL.com and their apps, as well as via their Facebook pages." The programming also "will be available on the websites for the clubs and their respective apps." The same programming and access "will be put in play" in January for the Feb. 21 Kings-Sharks Coors Light Stadium Series matchup at Levi's Stadium. The linear and digital showings "will be flanked by a multipronged ad campaign from Epix and the NHL," set to begin Nov. 17. Just as the Winter Classic "has become a staple of Jan. 1 programming lineup, the attendant programming and marketing could be a way that Epix and the NHL ring in more new years to come." NHL COO John Collins said that evaluations "would be made, but in his conversations with Epix president and CEO Mark Greenberg the idea was that this project would air with the premium programmer over several years" (MULTICHANNEL.com, 11/12).
