Giants' Baer Leading Bay Area Bid For '24 Games, Faces Infrastructure Challenges

MLB Giants President & CEO Larry Baer is "leading the Bay Area effort to snag" the '24 Olympics, according to Matier & Ross of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Baer said, "It would be a very powerful thing for the community." Matier & Ross noted two past Bay Area bids "have fallen short, and city insiders say this one will need lots of help from the region to put all the pieces in place -- everything from coming up with a 'pop-up' Olympic Stadium, which would be demolished afterward, to completing the new Transbay Transit Center and getting BART extended to San Jose sooner rather than later." Baer has "had plenty of experience both in big sports and development deals," and also "has proven political smarts" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 11/2).
