NFL Calls Special Meeting Of Stadium, Finance Committees; L.A. Could Be Discussed

The NFL "has called a special meeting of its stadium and finance committees ... for later this month," and while the relocation of teams to L.A. is not on the official agenda, it "is possible for the topic to be discussed," according to sources cited by Jason La Canfora of CBSSPORTS.com. Meetings "such as this, scheduled this late and with a December full with NFL owner's meeting already on the docket, are rare and these committees are comprised with some of the owners who have the greatest zest for the league to get to LA as soon as possible, perhaps even by" the '15 season (CBSSPORTS.com, 11/2).

VOICE OF THE PLAYERS: PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Mike Florio reported there has been "no clear indication ... regarding whether the new board of player reps will favor keeping" NFLPA Exec Dir DeMaurice Smith in office or "replacing him with former NFL player Sean Gilbert." The process by which players on each NFL team elect their reps, which occurs every two years, has "been unfolding for the last two months in cities throughout the league." Player reps in March "will have to decide whether they want Smith, Gilbert, or someone else to hold the job for the next three years" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 10/31). Meanwhile, SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Liz Mullen reports the NFLPA has told the NFL that it "believes any changes to the personal conduct policy require collective bargaining." However, NFLPA Assistant Exec Dir of External Affairs George Atallah added that the league has "rejected the union's requests to bargain" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/3 issue).

TECH SUPPORT: In Boston, Ben Volin wrote tablets have "revolutionized the way teams and players prepare for battle." The tablets' "greatest asset just might be their ability to allow players and coaches to stream and share video clips with each other" (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/2).
