William Foley Reportedly In Discussions To Bring NHL Team To Las Vegas

Fidelity National Financial Chair William Foley is in "advanced talks with the NHL about bringing the first major league sports franchise to Las Vegas" starting with the '17-18 season, which would mark the league’s 100th anniversary, according to Kosman & Brooks of the N.Y. POST. Foley is "betting hockey will sell" in Las Vegas, and "if he succeeds, Foley will likely bring in others to run the team." A source said that one scenario is for Foley to buy the Coyotes and "move them" to the city. However, an NHL spokesperson said that it is "'categorically wrong' that Foley is planning to buy" the Coyotes and relocate them. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman earlier this month "suggested the league was open to expansion, including bringing a team to the gambling mecca in the middle of the desert" (N.Y. POST, 10/24).
