NBA Guarantees TV Partners Compensation If Ads Are Placed On Jerseys

The idea of corporate ads landing on NBA jerseys took a step closer to happening, as the league has guaranteed that its network partners, ESPN and Turner, will be compensated. As part of the league's media rights deal that was signed earlier this month, national brands with jersey deals that would have bought time on ESPN or TNT's NBA game telecasts would commit to also buying additional TV ads during any nationally televised games featuring that sponsored team. Additionally, Turner picked up the rights to sell corporate advertising for All-Star Game jerseys starting with the '17 game, which is the first season of the new deal. Both nets wanted to sell ads on team jerseys on their own, but the league did not want to hand over those rights.
