The D-Backs announced that former GM KEVIN TOWERS, who considered a role within the organization, "would be leaving to pursue other opportunities in baseball." D-Backs Chief Baseball Officer TONY LA RUSSA said that Towers "told him he felt remaining with the team presented a sort of 'awkwardness'" with DAVE STEWART installed as the new GM and DE JON WATSON on board as Senior VP/Baseball Operations. The team also announced the departure of Assistant GM BILL RYAN, who "was told his contract was not being renewed" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 10/5).

EXECS: The NBA Kings hired ESPN Dir of Production Analytics DEAN OLIVER to "provide statistical analysis and have a role in personnel decisions." Kings GM PETE D'ALESSANDRO: "This is a guy who's on the floor, working with the coaches, calling different general managers trying to put deals together" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 10/4)....Dr Pepper Snapple Group named former A-B VP/Media, Sports & Entertainment Marketing BLAISE D'SYLVA VP/Media & Content Planning (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/6 issue)....The Padres named Rangers scout CHRIS KEMP Int'l Scouting Dir (UTSANDIEGO.com, 10/4)....Relativity Sports named White Sox Dir of PR LUIS HERNANDEZ Dir of Baseball Marketing and Proskauer Rose attorney JILLIAN GAFFIELD Senior Counsel.
