Under Armour Investing $100M In Massive Distribution Facility Outside Nashville

Under Armour on Thursday announced that it would "build a one million-square-foot distribution 'house' that promises to employ about 1,500 workers" in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., according to Andy Humbles of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. The "massive distribution facility" in the Nashville suburb is "targeted to open" in January '16. UA COO Kip Fulks said, "We picked Mt. Juliet mainly for its location, relative to the rest of the country and our customers. It offers a superb hub for our distribution network. And the incentives have been tremendous from the state and local government." Work will "start immediately with a bulldozer already on site clearing brush at the more than 200-acre site off Interstate 40 near Beckwith Road." Fulks said that the investment by Under Armour "will be around" $100M. He added that the company "projects hiring to begin" around the middle of '15 "with a variety of jobs expected to be available." UA "already operates two retail stores in Nashville and Sevierville." Fulks "did not reveal other sites Under Armour considered, but sources said the company looked at sites in Georgia and South Carolina" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 10/3).
