Golfer STACY LEWIS is launching "Birdies 4 Founders Film," for which she "will donate $100 for every birdie she makes to the 'THE FOUNDERS' production, a documentary about the 13 women who started the LPGA" in '50. The film "is a work in progress by Eleven 11 Films, an all-female production team that is working to find the funding it needs to complete the project." Golf HOFer KARRIE WEBB is among those "who have also supported the project," along with golfers ROSIE JONES, JANE PARK and JENNY LIDBACK (GOLFCHANNEL.com, 10/1).

BIG BLUES FOR BIG BLUE: USA TODAY's Christine Brennan writes Michigan AD DAVE BRANDON and football coach BRADY HOKE should be fired for the "unacceptable decision to allow dazed and unsteady" QB SHANE MORRIS to stay in last Saturday's game against Minnesota "after a brutal hit to the head." The "incompetence on the football field" under Hoke, "well-documented and getting worse, is one thing." The "stunningly poor stewardship of what once was the gold-standard of college athletic departments" by Brandon is another. But the Morris situation "is what should get Hoke and Brandon fired" (USA TODAY, 10/2).

KEEPING IT REAL: MLB Authenticator AL FLEMM and three colleagues "were busy" last night during the Giants-Pirates NL Wild Card game at PNC Park, "cataloging and verifying game-used items." MLB "employs about 140 authenticators -- four in Pittsburgh -- through 30 ballparks." Though only one or two "work a regular season game, all four worked" last night's playoff game. MLB "founded its authentication program" in '01, and it has since "authenticated about 5 million items" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 10/2).
