Stewart Says Sponsors Have Stuck By NASCAR Team After Sprint Car Tragedy

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart this morning answered questions from the media for the first time since the sprint car accident that killed Kevin Ward Jr. and said Stewart-Haas Racing has "stayed in close contact" with the team's sponsors during the past seven weeks. Stewart said Bass Pro Shops Founder Johnny Morris visited him at his Indiana home, and he has "spoken to people from Mobil 1" who visited him "in the last couple of weeks at the racetrack." Stewart: "The support from them has been amazing. It's obviously a tough circumstance for a corporation to be a part of but they've been very supportive through this process." He said he could not "speak to what the future will be for them," but said they have been "supportive to this point, and that's something I've been very grateful for" ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 9/29). SHR also counts Coca-Cola, Go Daddy, Mac Tools and Axalta Coating Systems, among others, as main sponsors. Stewart wore a black shirt with logos of SHR and Oakley on it. He sat in front of a plain gray background that did not contain any sponsor logos (THE DAILY).
