Suns Owner Robert Sarver Discusses Outlook Ahead Of 10th Season With Club

Suns Owner Robert Sarver, entering his 10th season with the club, has "learned from missteps in a different business world while remaining part of the new breed of hands-on owners who want to apply their business savvy to franchises with rapidly growing value," according to a profile by Paul Coro of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Sarver said of the team's outlook, "We're definitely going to have to get a new arena built. Our lease runs for another eight years maybe. Between us and the city, we've done a good job maintaining it despite its age but it's starting to run out of gas. It's like a house. It gets to be 30 years old and then you've got a lot of work to do. You can remodel or build a new house." He said his ownership plans are "definitely long-term." Coro wrote when it comes to Sarver, the NBA is a business that "admittedly sucked him in emotionally but also has tangible benefits to his bank side." Sarver "is not necessarily prone to change." His Western Alliance Bancorporation's key management team "has remained the same since" '95 and he "still uses a flip phone." Meanwhile, Sarver's courtside seat "has moved to a corner and his demeanor has toned down a tad" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 9/28).
