Warriors Shrug Off "Toilet" Comparisons, Insist Arena Design Is A Work In Progress

Warriors spokesperson P.J. Johnston yesterday said that the comparison of the preliminary design of the team's new arena to a toilet seat "is 'unfortunate' because it does not reflect the final result," according to Diamond Leung of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. Johnston said that the design "will 'absolutely' change in the coming months, emphasizing that the drawings created by MANICA Architecture were not detailed renderings." Johnston: "I guess that's the perils of the Internet. First impressions are first impressions. We're confident though that when this design is further refined and really comes together, people will not only see what we're trying to accomplish like with the raised bayfront deck, but they will definitely see a more nuanced and beautiful rendering that will frankly just better showcase the design that than these do." He added that the 135-foot-high bayfront terrace that "has drawn comparisons to the rear edge of a toilet seat will provide a publicly accessible vista of San Francisco Bay." Johnston: "It will be pretty cool and people will like it" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 9/25). Johnston: "This was presented at the meeting as very much a work in progress so that we could put the size of the building in context. In the next few months, we will continue to show much more and the arena design will continue to be refined" (ESPN.com, 9/24).
