Royals Encounter Problem With Online Playoff Ticket Sales Due To Excessive Traffic

The Royals on Thursday morning were "hustling to fix an online problem that occurred when potential playoff tickets went on sale," according to Andy McCullough of the K.C. STAR. For about a 15-minute period after tickets went on sale at 10:00am CT, fans "found themselves unable to complete orders online because of excessive amounts of people utilizing the server." The club still is "trying to determine exactly how many fans were caught during the breakdown." Some fans could "not confirm the purchase of tickets, while others were unsure if their purchase went through." Royals VP/Community Affairs & Publicity Toby Cook estimated it was "just a couple hundred or more” fans who dealt with problems. As of Thursday afternoon, tickets "weren’t sold out for the potential Wild Card game and the first two games" of the AL Division Series. But only single tickets "were available" (K.C. STAR, 9/19).

EVERYBODY LOVES A WINNER: McCullough notes with "already more than 100,000 tickets sold" for the Royals' home series this weekend against the division-leading Tigers, the season's overall attendance "will number more than 1,944,000, the Royals' largest" since '91 (K.C. STAR, 9/19). In Detroit, Tony Paul notes nearly 120,000 tickets "are expected to be sold by the end of the series Sunday afternoon." This marks the "first time the Royals will draw 100,000 fans for a three-game September series" since '82 (DETROIT NEWS, 9/19). In Oklahoma City, Mel Bracht notes all three games in the series "will be nationally televised." Friday's game airs on ESPN2, while Fox carries the Saturday game and TBS will air Sunday's matchup (OKLAHOMAN, 9/19).
