Phillies Agree To One-Year Deal With CBS Radio, With Eye On Long-Term Pact

The Phillies and CBS Radio "have agreed to a one-year extension on a contract to air their games" on Philadelphia-based WPHT-AM and WIP-FM, according to Jeff Blumenthal of the PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL. The team's current three-year deal was "set to expire at the end of this season." The contract will "continue to include live play-by-play coverage of Phillies spring training, regular season and post-season games." Phillies Senior VP/Marketing & Advertising Sales Dave Buck said that the one-year deal "will give them more time to negotiate a longterm extension, hopefully well before the 2015 season ends." Buck added that Phillies radio announcers Scott Franzke, Larry Andersen and Jim Jackson "are expected to continue in their current roles." Blumenthal noted unlike past negotiations, the Phillies "had the leverage of a second sports talk radio station," WPEN, with "both AM and FM stations to air games." But Buck said that the Philllies "negotiated exclusively with CBS Radio and had no discussions with Greater Media" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/15).
