49ers, Pac-12 Nets Suspend Announcer Robinson For Ray Rice Comments

The 49ers "have suspended radio broadcaster Ted Robinson two games for comments he made regarding domestic violence" Monday afternoon on KNBR-AM, according to Eric Branch of the S.F. CHRONICLE. The Pac-12 Networks, for which Robinson "calls college games," also suspended him for two weeks. The net said that Robinson will "undergo sensitivity training." Robinson in discussing the domestic-violence situation involving former Ravens RB Ray Rice said that Rice's wife, Janay, "bore some of the responsibility for not speaking up after she was knocked unconscious by her then-fiancee." Robinson: "That to me, is the saddest part of it." He also said her decision to marry Rice after she was assaulted was "pathetic" (SFGATE.com, 9/10). In San Jose, Cam Inman cites a source as saying that Bob Fitzgerald "will replace Robinson" for the next two 49ers games. Fitzgerald "served in the same capacity during the 49ers' exhibition broadcasts, and he's been the Warriors' longtime broadcaster." Robinson has served as the "Voice of the 49ers" since '09 (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 9/11).
