A “benefit concert to raise money” for late ESPN Dallas Rangers beat writer RICHARD DURRETT “raised more than $200,000” on Monday night (ESPNDALLAS.com, 9/9). The “Do It For Durrett” benefit “featured a poignant video tribute to the Durrett family, a silent auction and a live auction,” as well as “performances from a handful of Texas-Rooted singer-songwriters” (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 9/9).

IRON AGE: The Yogi Berra Museum “unveiled its new LOU GEHRIG exhibit on Tuesday night, along with some equipment from PETE FRATES, the former college baseball player who suffers from ALS and popularized the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.” The exhibit at Montclair State Univ. “includes some rare photos of Gehrig, a letter he wrote to a fan, a game-used bat, signed baseball and a seven-foot long painting of his retirement speech at Yankee Stadium.” This year “marks the 75th anniversary of Gehrig's iconic farewell speech” (MLB.com, 9/9).

NAMES: The Hornets and Lowe’s yesterday announced they will award $50,000 for education-related projects in Mecklenburg County, N.C., this fall as part of the longtime partners’ education grant program (Hornets)....West Charlotte High School will receive a new synthetic turf football field, thanks in part to a $200,000 grant from the NFL Panthers and the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program (Panthers)....Heat F DANNY GRANGER has sold his 6,657-square-foot Hollywood Hills, Calif., home for $3.8M (LATIMES.com, 9/9)....Former NBAer CHAUNCEY BILLUPS has listed his 9,206-square-foot Denver-area home for $3M (LATIMES.com, 9/9).

IN MEMORY: Former NHLer BOB SUTER, who played on the “Miracle On Ice” U.S. hockey team at the ’80 Lake Placid Games, died yesterday at the age of 57 “after suffering what a friend said was a massive heart attack while at the rink he owned in Middleton, Wis.” Suter is the first player from “the fabled U.S. Olympic hockey team to pass away” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/10).
