NBA Will Now Allow Teams To Sell Sponsorships To Fantasy Game Operators

The NBA is reversing its ban and will now allow its teams to sell sponsorships to fantasy game operators. The move to open the category is another revenue opportunity made available to teams by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. NBA Exec VP/Team Marketing & Business Operations Amy Brooks said, "We are always looking for opportunities to explore new categories to generate additional revenue and increase connectivity to fans." Effective immediately, NBA teams can sign deals with daily fantasy game companies, which includes firms such as FanDuel. The deals for this season will be limited to one-year agreements and do not include team and league logo rights in connection with specific games. The deals also must be limited to the general fantasy game company brands, not specific games. Brooks said of the decision to lift the ban, “It was a category we were keeping an eye on as it emerged. The landscape of fantasy sports has changed over the past few years. It's a popular and legal way for fans to connect with their sports."
