Baylor Univ. yesterday "hosted a media tour" of McLane Stadium, "showing off completed spaces and high-end finishing touches" to the school's new football stadium, according to Regina Dennis of the WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD. Austin-based Flintco Senior Superintendent Jeff Horn, who has been overseeing construction, said the stadium is "99.5 percent complete." Dennis notes a "final certificate of occupancy is expected to be issued later this week." One of the "more impressive areas is the presidential suite on the top level," which "overlooks the south end zone and features a balcony with picturesque views of both the field and the Baylor campus across the Brazos River." The suite can "host up to 135 people." The stadium also features a "fully finished recruit suite" at field level "where the athletics department will entertain high school football players." Baylor still has to "train about 1,100 staff members on everything from concessions operations to security and customer service." Yesterday also was the "official roll-out of the university’s new 'Baylor In-Game' football app." It will allow fans at the stadium to catch replays of all major plays from "six different camera angles." Baylor is the "first college client" of the app's developer, YinzCam, to "offer the live replay" (WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD, 8/19). In Dallas, Shehan Jeyarajah wrote McLane Stadium "features a seating structure that keeps the crowd right on top of the game," similar to Arrowhead Stadium and CenturyLink Field. The venue also "features giant canopies above the crowd" that are "optimized to hold in the sound created by the crowd" (DALLASNEWS.com, 8/18).
THIRD WORLD: In Texas, John Werner reports Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is "planning to be at McLane Stadium for the presentation of his statue" on Aug. 31. The statue will "stand in the plaza area on the south side of the stadium" (WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD, 8/19).
