Browns Looking At Multiple Ohio College Campuses For New Training Camp Home

There is a real chance the Browns "could move training camp" to the Univ. of Akron, but the school is not the only site the organization is "exploring when it comes to a potential off-site training camp home," according to Zac Jackson of FOX SPORTS OHIO. The Browns "sent a letter to multiple Columbus-area universities to gauge interest in hosting the team and are expected to receive at least one proposal." A source said that Kent State also has had "at least preliminary talks" with the Browns. Nothing "has been decided and more potential sites could be explored -- though the Browns have put a deadline on official proposals for the end of this week." The Browns "have hosted camp at their Berea headquarters every year since returning to the NFL" in '99. The selection of QB Johnny Manziel "has led to record crowds this year and the team implementing a pre-registration system for fans who attend." Browns coach Mike Pettine "is thought to be in favor of at least exploring an off-site move." The biggest hurdle for a Browns-Akron full-time partnership "is probably the city setting of the campus, and specifically a lack of grass practice fields" (FOXSPORTSOHIO.com, 8/12).

HOT IN CLEVELAND: ESPN.com's Darren Rovell reported the Browns "put single-game tickets on sale on Tuesday morning and, within 30 minutes, fans looking for a pair of tickets to any game were out of luck." The Browns "completely sold out their home opener" against the Saints on Sept. 14 "within 15 minutes of the online sale." Single seats and a few pairs of club seats "are available for the other six home games," as the Oct. 12 game against the Steelers also sold out. The Browns "sold 2,300 new season tickets ... in less than 24 hours after drafting Manziel in May." Browns President Alec Scheiner said that the team "has sold out of its high-end suites for the season, as supply was already limited after new video boards at FirstEnergy Stadium reduced capacity by at least 3,500 seats" (ESPN.com, 8/12).
