NFL Owners In The News: McNair Given Clean Bill Of Health After Cancer Bout

Texans Owner BOB MCNAIR "has been given a clean bill of health by the team of doctors that treated him" after a 10-month ordeal in which he "battled two forms of cancer under an assumed name at MD Anderson Cancer Center." McNair’s remarkable recovery "has included ground-breaking experimental treatment for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), painful surgery on the left side of his head and neck and 30 sessions of radiation, causing second-degree burns that required a plastic surgeon to perform skin grafts." McNair: "I’ve never been through anything like that, but two days ago, I was given a clean bill of health, so it was worth the pain and suffering" (CHRON.com, 8/6).

ELEPHANTS IN THE ROOM: Former Republican presidential candidate MITT ROMNEY will join Jets Owner WOODY JOHNSON and Republican National Committee Chair REINCE PRIEBUS "in co-hosting a major party fundraiser in New York later this year that is expected to feature several potential presidential candidates." The Oct. 6 event "appears to be similar to one Johnson held last year." Romney’s role this time around "underscores his re-emergence as a party fundraiser and surrogate." The event will be held at Johnson's N.Y. home (POLITICO.com, 8/6). Johnson served as the National Finance co-Chair during Romney's run for the White House in '12. He indicated at the time that he would rather see Romney win the election than the Jets win the Super Bowl (THE DAILY).

PHOTO BOMB: Racy photographs allegedly of Cowboys Owner JERRY JONES "in sexually suggestive poses with young women, hit cyberspace Tuesday in an apparent extortion plot." One image "showed him cupping the breasts of a blond woman in a restroom." Sports gossip site TerezOwens "first posted the images" (N.Y. POST, 8/6).
