Baseball HOF To Roll Out Traveling Exhibit Featuring Mobile IMAX Theater, Virtual Games

The Baseball HOF today will announce that it has "joined a partnership to create a museum on wheels that is being planned to be launched" in Spring Training '16, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY. The roaming HOF exhibit -- a partnership with MLBAM, IMAX, Creative Sports Agency and Red Sox Chair Tom Werner -- will include artifacts, a "first of its kind" mobile IMAX theater, and a "short movie produced by Werner." It also will "take a slice out of the All-Star Fanfest, with fans able to take virtual batting practice against Hall of Fame pitchers, run against catchers, and watch pitches in 3-D." The HOF is hopeful that the traveling museum will "whet the appetite, resulting in an attendance increase at Cooperstown, which averages about 300,000 visitors a year." Werner, who is also the co-Founder of Carsey-Werner, said that the idea "originated two years ago." Werner has agreed to "produce the 15- to 20-minute film, which will be shown" at both the traveling HOF and the permanent one in Cooperstown (USA TODAY, 8/6).

NUTS OVER KNUCKSIE: In South Carolina, Ron Morris notes a "particularly interesting exhibit of baseball art work" was recently donated to the HOF by baseball memorabilia collector John Baker. A "framed mosaic" of HOFer Phil Niekro’s No. 35 Braves jersey is "composed entirely of cut-up pieces of boxscores and baseball cards of Niekro’s teammates during his illustrious career" (Columbia STATE, 8/6).
