NFL Franchise Notes: Jets Eye Farmingdale State For Future Training Camp Site

On Long Island, Kimberley Martin reports Farmingdale State College is on the "list of possible locations for future Jets training camps." Sources said that staff members already have "visited the Long Island campus," but the club still is in the "early stages" of its scouting process. Since Jets coach Rex Ryan took the job in '09, the team has "held training camp at SUNY Cortland every year except" for '11. But the Jets in January announced it will "consider other options for next summer" (NEWSDAY, 8/5).

I'LL SECOND THAT: In Chicago, Danny Ecker reported Vivid Seats has replaced Atlanta-based PrimeSport this season "as the Bears' official fan packages provider." The secondary ticket site will "offer the team's VIP packages and tickets to sold-out home and away games as well as game-day experiences like official tailgates and round-trip transportation." The deal is "separate from the NFL's deal with Ticketmaster" (CHICAGOBUSINESS.com, 8/4).

FOLLOW THE LEADER: In DC, Jason Reid writes for anyone who "doubts there’s a link between front-office stability and sustained success in professional sports, look no further than" the Patriots. With "extensive control over the football operation," coach Bill Belichick is "in charge of building the Patriots’ roster." He developed a program that has "provided the foundation for the team’s remarkable consistency. Team Owner Robert Kraft hired a "proven football man and gave him room to work" (WASHINGTON POST, 8/5).

TEXAS TWO-STEP: In San Antonio, W. Scott Bailey writes of the Raiders' reported interest in relocating to the city, "Too many in this city have come to believe that Dallas is better than San Antonio and for whatever reason more deserving of things like the NFL." Bailey: "Who decided that the best this city ... could ever manage is to ride the coattails of a mediocre football team based in Arlington?" Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones "isn't at all interested in what is best for San Antonio," but rather "how much of it he can pry from the wallets of gullible people" who live there (SAN ANTONIO BUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/1 issue).
