Univ. Of Akron's Stadium Under Consideration To Host Future Browns Training Camps

The Univ. of Akron's InfoCision Stadium "is under consideration" by the Browns for upcoming training camps, according to a front-page piece by George Thomas of the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. Browns coach Mike Pettine and team officials "have expressed interest in moving from Berea in recent months." Browns Communications Coordinator Rob McBurnett confirmed that UA "was among several sites the team has reached out to regarding training camp and has sent request for proposals." UA is currently "in the early stages of assembling a plan." UA AD Tom Wistrcill said that the Browns "have asked UA to submit the proposal by Aug. 15." Meanwhile, Kent State "also has received" an RFP, though it "was not clear Tuesday how the university will respond" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 7/30).

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES: Oxnard, Calif., Mayor Tim Flynn anticipates that the Cowboys will be "returning to the city for their training camp practices" in '15. Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones last night said that he "agreed." Jones said Flynn "would have every reason to anticipate that." In Dallas, Brandon George notes the Cowboys "are in their last year of a three-year contract to hold training camp practices in Oxnard, but the club has a three-year option it can exercise at its discretion." Jones, noting the Cowboys are opening a training facility in Frisco, Texas, in '16, said, "There is a lot of flexibility here, but the most logical one is just go both places in the same seasons" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/30).
