World Cup Helps ESPN.com Break Record For Most Unique Visitors In A Month

ESPN last month shattered its own industry record for most unique visitors in a month in U.S. digital sports history, posting 80.7 million uniques during June according to comScore Media Metrix Multi-Platform ratings. The total was fueled in part by heavy traffic from its coverage of the FIFA World Cup. ESPN’s June audience, beating the prior record of 72.7 million uniques set last September, outdistanced second place Yahoo Sports-NBC Sports Network by more than a third. ESPN also led the category by far in consumption metrics, posting an average of 92 minutes per user during the month and 7.4 billion minutes overall. Fifty-four percent of ESPN’s audience accessed its content only on mobile devices, the third consecutive month in which ESPN has generated the majority of its digital audience from mobile-only users. The World Cup also influenced other portions of the June comScore list, as FIFA.com made a rare appearance in the leaderboard, ranking 12th with a total of 13.9 million unique visitors.
