Mississippi State, Kansas State Reach Home-And-Home Football Series Over Twitter

Mississippi State and Kansas State have an “informal agreement” to play a two-game series in football in a deal reached over Twitter, a “first in the world of college scheduling,” according to Kellis Robinett of the K.C. STAR. MSU will play at K-State in ’18, with the game moving to Starkville in ’19. The deal “won’t become official unless both schools put pen to paper on a contract.” But K-State AD John Currie in one of his tweets to MSU AD Scott Stricklin wrote, “Let’s get the paperwork done” (K.C. STAR, 7/12). Stricklin said, “It takes a pretty savvy partner. John’s a pretty sharp guy. It was kind of a fun way to do it. There’s a younger generation of guys out there that communicate through these mediums.” ESPN.com’s Brett McMurphy noted the Twitter exchange started when Currie, in a video for Chillin For Charity, was “challenged by Stricklin to contribute to the charity.” At the end of the video, Currie said, “We think that Mississippi State ought to come here to Bill Snyder Family Stadium and play a little football sometime” (ESPN.com, 7/11). In Jackson, Michael Bonner wrote things “just happen faster in the age of Twitter including scheduling negotiations” (Jackson CLARION-LEDGER, 7/12).
