ESPN's Coverage Of British Open To Include Online Feed Dedicated To Tiger

ESPN announced Thursday that part of its coverage for next week’s British Open will "include an exclusive Tiger Woods broadcast" on ESPN3, according to Chris Chase of USA TODAY. ESPN's Trey Wingo will "host the channel, along with commentary from Tom Weiskopf and David Duval." Offering viewers the "all-Tiger experience makes perfect sense" because if Tiger is on the course during a major, chances are viewers are "seeing most of his shots live, no matter whether he’s lurking around the lead or way off the pace." But the benefit of the "whip-around coverage is that networks can cut to other players when Tiger isn’t playing." Chase: "This is a great idea that’s an easy call when a network has the capabilities of ESPN" (USATODAY.com, 7/10). In Florida, Mike Parsons writes there will be a "lot of standing and walking shown," but fans will "get to see every shot." Parsons: "The thing that I like about it is now the other golf fans will get to just watch the players in contention without having to break to see what Tiger is doing." The Woods-centric feed "opens the door to all kinds of interesting things in the future, but for now it is an idea that makes all the sense in the world" (FLORIDA TODAY, 7/11).
