Arkansas State, Missouri In Talks To Play Football Game At Busch Stadium In '15

Arkansas State Univ. AD Terry Mohajir said that he has "been in discussions" with the St. Louis Sports Commission to play a home game against the Univ. of Missouri on Sept. 12, 2015 at Busch Stadium "for a 'significant' sum," according to David Morrison of the COLUMBIA DAILY TRIBUNE. Mohajir: "If we’re ever going to move a game to a neutral site -- even though we know it would be pro-Missouri -- our fans are huge Cardinal fans, and a lot of our fans and people who live down this way have season tickets up there. It’d be a good place.” St. Louis Sports Commission President Frank Viverito said that Edward Jones Dome "could be used for the game but that Mohajir and the commission thought Busch Stadium was preferable 'to make it unique and add a little bit more excitement, perhaps, to the opportunity.'” Viverito said that capacity for the game would be in the "mid-40,000s." Morrison noted Busch Stadium "hosted the Southern Illinois-Southeast Missouri State football game last September, drawing a crowd of 14,618." Viverito thinks Missouri-Arkansas State "could have much the same atmosphere as the Manchester City-Chelsea soccer match last May, when a record 48,263 fans packed the premises." That is, if Mohajir "agrees to move the game there." Mohajir has to consider whether he is "willing to give up home-field advantage" against a SEC opponent, "with the promise of that significant payday to help fund some of the athletic department’s current and planned facility improvements" (COLUMBIATRIBUNE.com, 7/9).
