Univ. Of Houston Secures Naming-Rights Deal For On-Campus Stadium With Credit Union

The Univ. of Houston's new on-campus football stadium "finally has a name," as UH today plans to announce a "naming-rights sponsorship agreement with Texas Dow Employees Credit Union," according to a source cited by Joseph Duarte of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. TDECU is the "fourth-largest credit union in Texas and the largest in the Houston." At an estimated $120M cost, TDECU Stadium has a "capacity of 40,000 and features 25 suites, 42 loge boxes, 766 club seats, four party patios and two open-air suite decks." It is slated to open on Aug. 29. UH in '13 received a $5M gift to "keep the name John O'Quinn Field" (CHRON.com, 7/7).

ROBERT RULES: FOXSPORTSSOUTHWEST.com's David Ubben reported a 9.5-foot bronze sculpture of Redskins QB and former Baylor QB Robert Griffin III "will be installed in the south end zone plaza of McLane Stadium the week of Baylor's season opener against SMU on Sunday, Aug. 31." The statue will "rest in front of panels and photos celebrating his accomplishments" at BU. The "official pose is being kept under wraps until the final unveiling" (FOXSPORTSSOUTHWEST.com, 7/7).

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE: Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp on Thursday said that construction on the east and south sides of Kyle Field is "coming along nicely." Sharp: "Everything is on budget and on time, and is rolling right along. We're very pleased with the progress." In Houston, Brent Zwerneman noted Kyle Field is undergoing a $450M renovation, with the "new south side and refurbished east (student) side scheduled to hold fans in time for the home opener" against Lamar on Sept. 6 (CHRON.com, 7/3).
