Wild Upgrading Xcel Energy Center Technology, Including New Video Board

The Wild yesterday announced that they have partnered with Daktronics to manufacture and install a comprehensive technology upgrade at Xcel Energy Center that will include a new custom HD LED center-hung video board. The new video board will be nearly six times larger than the current one, stretching from blue line to blue line (Wild). In Minneapolis, Nick Halter wrote Xcel Energy Center's current video boards were installed when the arena opened in '00, "right before HD picked up steam." The $6M project also "includes new outdoor marquees and ribbon displays." Wild and Xcel Center Dir of Strategic Initiatives Kathy O'Connor said that the updates were "made possible by legislative action" in '13 that "retired arena debt and allowed the city of St. Paul to redirect the team's lease payments toward arena improvements." That money will "be used for replacing all of the seats in the arena" starting in '15 (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/30).
