Roger Federer Not Running For Re-Election As ATP Player Council President

Roger Federer will not run for re-election as ATP Player Council President on Friday when the group meets in London. The move was confirmed by the ATP and Federer's agent, Tony Godsick. Federer has run the council, which advises the ATP and names the three player reps to the circuit’s BOD, since ‘08. In that time he oversaw the negotiations that led to significant increases in Grand Slam prize money. Federer recently became the father of twins for a second time, and it is unclear if that has a bearing on his decision to step down or if he has a desire to focus more on his on-court game. Federer was the rare top athlete to take a prominent role in the labor negotiations in his sport. The council will vote on a new president and other members at its meeting.
