Former NFLer JAHVID BEST's civil lawsuit against the league, Riddell and Easton-Bell Sports "has been dismissed." Wayne County (Mich.) Circuit Court documents show that Best's case was dismissed on May 6 "due to a nonservice dismissal without prejudice." This "likely means that Best, the plaintiff, did not serve the defendants in a defined period of time." Best "can refile the suit, but it is unclear if he will do so" (ESPN.com, 6/5).

AWARDS & HONORS: The Hockey HOF on Thursday announced USA Today’s KEVIN ALLEN as the winner of the ’14 Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for excellence in journalism. Blackhawks play-by-play announcer PAT FOLEY was honored with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for broadcasting. Allen and Foley were “voted in by their respective associations and will receive their awards” in Toronto on Nov. 17 (NHL.com, 6/5)....The National Radio HOF on Thursday selected its seven '14 inductees, including former ESPN baseball commentator JON MILLER, who also has called Giants games on KNBR-AM since '97. The ceremony will take place Nov. 9 in L.A.
