Sources: Purse To Increase For U.S. Women's Open, Marking First Impact Of Fox/USGA Deal

Players at next month's U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst No. 2 will be competing for a purse of $4M, a "significant bump" from the $3.25M that had been offered since '08, according to sources cited by Ron Sirak of GOLF DIGEST. It marks the "first impact of the new riches rolling into the USGA" from its 12-year, $1.1B TV deal with Fox Sports that begins in '15. A source said the purse also will "bump up a good bit" in '15. The USGA would "neither confirm nor deny the purse increase." The 18% "winner's share last year for Inbee Park was $585,000," and that "same slice" of this year's $4M purse will be $720,000 (GOLFDIGEST.com, 5/22).
