Barnett planned to retire from broadcasting and serve as a Warriors ambassador
In Oakland, Carl Steward notes the Warriors yesterday confirmed that TV analyst Jim Barnett “will be back on the air next year in a more limited capacity.” Barnett is “completing his 29th year as a Warriors broadcaster.” A team spokesperson said that the number of games Barnett will work “has not been finalized.” The Warriors and Barnett “reached a mutual agreement before the season that he would retire from broadcasting and serve as a club ambassador.” However, a “groundswell of support from Warriors fans clearly impacted the club having a change of heart” (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 4/17).

HUB-BUB: In Boston, Chad Finn cites data from Nielsen Audio showing that for the sixth straight quarter (Jan. 2-March 26), WBZ-FM (98.5 The Sports Hub) “is the No. 1 station in Boston" among males 25-54. WBZ has radio rights to the Celtics, Bruins, Patriots and Revolution. WEEI-FM (ESPN Radio), which has rights to the Red Sox and Boston College, "finished seventh" (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/17).

BRILLIANT FINISH:’s Avi Creditor noted NBC Sports Group “will be broadcasting all 10” of the '13-14 EPL season’s simultaneous finales on May 11 “across its family of channels.” It marks “the first time all of the season-ending games will be aired on network TV at the same time.” Which games appear on which channel “has yet to be determined and will be announced in early May” (, 4/16).
