FIFA Launches Final World Cup Ticket-Sales Phase As Trophy Nears End Of Tour

The last ticket sales phase for the ‘14 FIFA World Cup in Rio began yesterday on FIFA.com, and “within four hours, 126,837 tickets had been sold,” according to Michelle Kaufman of the MIAMI HERALD. In all, 2.9 million tickets were “made available to fans, and 2.57 million had been sold” as of yesterday. More than 1 million tickets were sold in Brazil, followed by 154,412 in the U.S. Meanwhile, the 14-inch, 13-pound World Cup trophy yesterday was on display in Miami. The trophy is “in the final week of a 90-country, nine-month global tour, during which it will cover 92,000 miles.” Its final stops are Atlanta, home of event sponsor Coca-Cola, and L.A., before the trophy “heads to Brazil” (MIAMI HERALD, 4/16).
