Eagles President Don Smolenski said the team has "not had any negotiations or discussions with Temple University about continuing their license for the use of Lincoln Financial Field in over a year." He added Temple President Neil Theobald's comments last week "do not accurately reflect our conversations with Temple representatives." Smolenski: "We do not consider statements in the press to be negotiations with us and we are mystified as to why Temple hasn't communicated with us on this subject in over a year" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 4/13).
TROUBLE BREWING: In Milwaukee, Don Walker noted Miller Park "sprang some leaks on Saturday night when a severe storm blew through town" during the Pirates-Brewers game. Miller Park Stadium District Exec Dir Mike Duckett said that the repairs "will be made next week." Walker noted the roof was "never designed to be air-tight or watertight," and heavy rain and high winds "can send water down on the playing field or in the seats" (JSONLINE.com, 4/13).
HARBOR DAY: In Buffalo, Jonathan Epstein reported despite "delays caused by a harsh winter," the Sabres expect the HARBORCenter to "be completed by October, in time for Canisius’ hockey home opener on Oct. 5." That is "slightly later than the original goal of late September." The Marriott Buffalo HARBORCenter hotel, "rising 12 stories above the northwest corner of the 850-space garage and rinks, is still slated to open" in May '15 (BUFFALO NEWS, 4/12).
GOING TO GRACELAND? In Memphis, Linda Moore reports the city's transit authority "may eliminate the shuttles to Grizzles games and other sporting events." The agency is "taking public comments on a proposal to eliminate the shuttle to the Grizzlies games, University of Memphis men’s basketball, the Southern Heritage Classic and the AutoZone Liberty Bowl." Transit officials said that the shuttles "lose about $100,000 a year and with cuts to its operating funds, those resources need to go elsewhere" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 4/14).
