ACC Basketball Tournament Looks For Attendance Bounce With First 15-Team Event

The men's ACC Basketball Tournament gets under way today, with Greensboro Coliseum hosting the event for the 25th time. Last year's event in Greensboro averaged 22,169 fans per game, up 14% from ’12, when the event at Philips Arena in Atlanta averaged below 20,000 attendees for the first time since ’89. The average last season was also well below previous ACC Tournaments at Greensboro Coliseum in the six-session era. The record average for the ACC Tournament remains 36,505 in ’01 for the conference’s first turn at the Georgia Dome -- a figure that also marked the best attendance on record for any men's basketball conference tournament. This year will mark the first time the ACC Tournament has fielded 15 teams, with an extra day (three games on Wednesday) added to the event (THE DAILY).
