MLS yesterday named NELSON RODRIGUEZ Chivas USA President. Rodriguez will oversee all aspects of the club's business and sports operations while the league continues its search for a new ownership group. Rodriguez has served at the MLS league office for the past 14 years, most recently as Exec VP/Competition, Technical & Game Operations. Prior to joining the league, he was an exec for the MLS Metrostars and served on the '94 FIFA World Cup organizing committee for Giants Stadium (MLS)

EXECS: SMG promoted Tulsa region GM JOHN BOLTON to VP/Entertainment (SMG)....Winston-Salem State Univ. AD BILL HAYES is retiring, effective tomorrow (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 2/27)....The NCAA yesterday appointed Stanford Univ. AD BERNARD MUIR and Univ. of North Carolina-Asheville AD JANET CONE to the D-I Men's Basketball Committee. Muir and Cone replace current committee Chair and Wake Forest Univ. AD RON WELLMAN and Big Sky Commissioner DOUG FULLERTON, whose terms expire Aug. 31 (Stanford).
